The 2017 Season At Droitwich Concert Club

For more than 70 years the Droitwich Concert Club has hosted outstanding chamber music recitals for the residents of Welwyn Garden City.

In October 2016, we’re moving our concerts to their new venue: St. Francis Church, located on Church Road, Welwyn Garden City AL8 6QJ. All concerts are held on Saturdays at 7:45 PM.

We recommend buying a season ticket so that you can enjoy a considerable discount on the cost of our superb concerts and get full access to a range of different ensembles. Single tickets are of course available for every show.

Note that we also organise coach journeys to major performances in London at least twice a year.

We hope you find some tempting performances on our programme and we hope to see you there.

The Club Today

We like to think that Dorothy Hess would recognise and appreciate the club as it stands today, even after more than 60 eventful years. We put on a series of six recitals between October and May every year. 2016 marks the year we say goodbye to the theatre at Campus West and move our shows to St. Francis Church on Parkway. This is a splendid venue with superb acoustic qualities and its own on-site grand piano.

The Droitwich Concert Club is now a registered charity. The committee members which direct it are elected annually by season ticket holders, and they function as the charity’s trustees. We encourage all of our season ticket holders to voice their concerns and take an active role in steering the Club. All ticket holders are treated to a pair of coach outings to concerts in London each year.

We feel particularly blessed to have a pair of exceptional musicians currently serving as our Patron and President. These men are, respectively, Nicholas Daniel and Andrew Watkinson. Nicholas is a conductor and oboist, while Andrew is a violinist, a conductor, and a member of the Endellion Quartet.

The Club receives additional financial support from several outside organisations, and this assistance has enabled us to bring on nationally and internationally-known musicians on a regular basis. We are extremely grateful to all of our backers for their help.
